Wolfgang Nüßlein, Violoncello Harvey Shapiro was impressed by his „outstanding talent“ and appreciated him as a „most excellent cellist and first class musician“, Paul Tortelier invited him to study with him in Paris and Nice ein, Zara Nelsova was „impressed by his talent“, Joel Krosnick from the Juilliard Quartet calls him a „brilliant, superb cellist and sensitive musician“.
Wolfgang Nüßlein studied at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe (Orchestra und Pedagogic Diploma), was a student of Harvey Shapiro at the „Juilliard School of Music New York“ (Master of Music) and a student of Paul Tortelier.
As a cellist he was travelling throughout Europe, gave concerts in Russia, North- and South Africa, the USA (f.e. Carnegie-Recital-Hall, Merkin-Concert-Hall New York), South America (Chile), Korea and China and was a guest of many festivals like the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, mdr-Musiksommer, Jazztage Braunschweig (together with the J. Loussier Trio), Beethoven Festival Krakau, „International Contemporary Music Festival Hong Kong“, Mozart Festival St. Petersburg, „Victoria International Music Festival“ Kanada and other more.
As principal cellist of the Bavarian Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Ulf Klausenitzer from 1995 - 2007 he toured Germany and Europe, cooperated with maestros like J. Loussier, G. Polt, H. Prey, K. Stockhausen and played in 2006 und 2007 in South Korea as a soloist in the major concert halls of that country. In addition Wolfgang Nüßlein was principal cellist of the Concerto Bamberg, was invited from the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra for CD productions (L. Fleisher) and concerts.
Wolfgang Nüßlein is devoted to chamber music playing as well: He is founding member of the Manhattan-String Trio, Member of different Ensembles und partner of D. Benda, M. Bunya, W. Forchert, H.-Y. Ho, U. Klausenitzer, H. Klemeyer, M. Kravtchin, N. Korsakova, S.-T. Matthies, J. Müller-Brincken, K. Ratner, C. Richter, G. Schuk, E. Shumsky, S. Uhde, M. Wang, M. Wu, G. Zhislin.
Since 1991 he is an active teacher at different Conservatories and Universities in Germany: For 12 years he was coaching the cellists of the Bavarian Youth Orchestra, jury member of different competitions, Assistant Harvey Shapiro’s, he did teach master classes for chamber music and cello in Germany, China (Central Conservatory of Music Beijing) and Chile. Many of his students are winning prices at competitions, became members of orchestras and hold teaching positions. From 2008 – 2010 he was teacher for Cello and chamber music at the Conservatory for Music in Kassel, since 2009 he is a full-time teacher for cello and chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik in Regensburg. In addition to his position in Regensburg he started as a full-time teacher for chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik (university of music) at Würzburg.
His relation to Hong Kong as a performer and teacher started in 1999, since when he performed regularly together with violinist Hong-Ying Ho and the pianist Mary Wu
